Okay, I have admittedly been posting quite a lot lately, but there’s plenty to occupy mindspace at the moment. And speaking of space, it’s about time we get a new, epic sci-fi movie that takes us to the skies and beyond.
The synopsis reads:
Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Now, I haven’t been a fan of Scott’s latest films, with a few exceptions. Frankly, he hasn’t done a true sci-fi film since the early 80s, so it remains to be seen if he can pull this off.
However, after seeing the trailer for Prometheus, I am extremely excited. Sci-fi is one of my favorite genres (if done right). In 2009, we got Duncan Jones’ Moon, which was an excellent film, despite its relatively low budget.
What we see in Prometheus, however, is a large scale, large budget production, which promises great special effects and a capable cast. The storyline seems to offer an interesting take on the origins of humanity. There’s plenty to explore here.
The trailer seems to nail the atmosphere, too. Prometheus is slated for release on June 8, 2012. Mark your digital calendars, sci-fi fans!
